Taproot Foundation
The nation's largest nonprofit consulting organization, Taproot Foundation is essentially a pro bono matchmaker pairing professional talent with organizations working towards social change who may not otherwise have access to such marketing, design, technology, management or strategic planning resources.
Groove With Me: My first Taproot team project, I worked closely with the copy writer to convey "joy" through a combination of punchy, conversational text and vibrant, kinetic imagery.
Just as dance is the vehicle for enriching the lives of underprivileged girls at Groove With Me, so is movement used to introduce this nonprofit in a series of panels.
Led by key words and colorful beats, this brochure engages its readers—potential donors and dancers—as it unfolds.
Upon completion of the brochure, I received very positive feedback:
"Carolyn produced three alternative designs for our trifold brochure for Groove With Me, and each captured the spirit of our organization brilliantly. Our only problem was having to choose just one to print!"

Arts Engine: My second assignment with Taproot Foundation, the challenge of this branding project was to develop a singular voice for a multifaceted media organization while clearly presenting its programs and services to potential donors.
I collaborated with a team of five to conduct research and create a design strategy for the 16-page promotional booklet. I also proposed a new tag line which was adopted by the client, who offered the following feedback:
"The project was complex and needed to easily communicate a number of concepts. Carolyn was able to come up with several design solutions that resulted in a compelling piece. I was completely impressed with her skill and creativity."
